Facebook recently launched the Messenger Room feature to take on the popular video conferencing platform Zoom and Google Meet. This feature is available to everyone and soon it will be accessible through WhatsApp, allowing its users to make group calls with friends directly on Facebook. The option is already available to some beta users and is expected to roll out to a wider user base around the world very soon.





The Messenger Rooms shortcut within WhatsApp will run in your mobile or web browser on the Messenger app or Messenger website. To create a room outside WhatsApp, users must have a Facebook account. Also, unlike WhatsApp video calls, video chats in the messenger room are encrypted end-to-end.





How to use Messenger room
Accessing Messenger Room Shortcuts in WhatsApp is more or less the same for Android, iPhone and desktop apps. Here's how you can access the messenger room via WhatsApp:





To create and share a room link in an Android device, open WhatsApp> go to the Call tab> create a room. You can also open a personal chat, then go to Attach> Room or open a group chat (with five or more participants) and tap on the group call icon> Create a room.

You will be prompted to 'Continue in Messenger' which will take you from WhatsApp and via the Messenger app or website. You can type the name of the room you have created and send the link to WhatsApp to invite users.





Those who received an invitation to join a room can do so by tapping on the link and open it in their mobile browser or Messenger app. All you need to do is log in with an updated Messenger app and your Facebook account.





Create a room and the process of joining it is similar to an iPhone. For WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp desktop apps, you have to click on the three dots icon above the menu or drop-down or chat list and select 'Create Desktop a room'. You can also enter an individual or group chat and click Attach> Room. You'll be taken out through WhatsApp Messenger website in your Internet browser.
